'27 They returned once more to Jerusalem. 'When I came to you, brothers, proclaiming the mystery of God, I did not come with sublimity of words or of wisdom.  For I resolved to know nothing while I was with you except Jesus Christ, and him crucified. I came to you in weakness and fear and much trembling, and my message and my proclamation were not with persuasive [words of] wisdom, but with a demonstration of spirit and power, so that your faith might rest not on human wisdom but on the power of God (1 Cor. 2:1-5).  Paul had previously gone to Corinth to proclaim the simple Gospel message of Christ crucified.  In his letter to the Corinthians Paul wrote, “For Christ did not send me to baptize but to preach the gospel, and not with the wisdom of human eloquence, so that the cross of Christ might not be emptied of its meaning (1 Cor. 1:17).”   He proclaimed to them the secrets revealed by God explaining that Christ crucified was a different savior than they had been expecting.  In Jewish apocalyptic literature, ‘mystery’ ref

 We do not preach only one coming of Christ, but a second as well, much more glorious than the first. The first coming was marked by patience; the second will bring the crown of a divine kingdom. In general, whatever relates to our Lord Jesus Christ has two aspects. There is a birth from God before the ages, and a birth from a virgin at the fullness of time. There is a hidden coming, like that of rain on fleece, and a coming before all eyes, still in the future. FIRST & SECOND COMING At the first coming he was wrapped in swaddling clothes in a manger. At his second coming he will be clothed in light as in a garment. In the first coming he endured the cross, despising the shame; in the second coming he will be in glory, escorted by an army of angels. We look then beyond the first coming and await the second. At the first coming we said: Blessed is he who comes in the name of the Lord . At the second we shall say it again; we shall go out with the angels to meet the Lord and cry out

'14 The Pharisees went out and took counsel against him to put him to death.  15 When Jesus realized this, he withdrew from that place.
