The One from Heaven (Jn. 3:31-36)

The one who comes from above is above all. The one who is of the earth is earthly and speaks of earthly things. But the one who comes from heaven [is above all]. 32 He testifies to what he has seen and heard, but no one accepts his testimony. 33 Whoever does accept his testimony certifies that God is trustworthy. 34 For the one whom God sent speaks the words of God. He does not ration his gift of the Spirit. 35 The Father loves the Son and has given everything over to him. 36 Whoever believes in the Son has eternal life, but whoever disobeys the Son will not see life, but the wrath of God remains upon him.

It is not clear if these are the words of Jesus or JBap.  Jesus is described as the one who comes from above and speaks of heavenly things.  He was sent by God to reveal the truths of God, but no one believes him.  Whoever accepts the truths revealed by God through him will receive his gift of the Spirit in abundance.  The Father has given everything over to the Son whom he loves (Jn. 5:22), and whoever believes in the son will have eternal life, but whoever rejects the Son will suffer death and the wrath of God.

Almighty God, you gave your Son authority to judge our earthly life and power to grant us eternal life in heaven.  We desire to live our lives according to your teaching and to grow spiritually.  Shower us with an abundance of the Holy Spirit so that our will may be conformed to yours.  This we pray through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.
